Last updated: 1 October 2026
What does the template contain?
The data template is a table with all columns of the schema "battery-v1" (in the platform: "Battery Passport (EU 2023/1542)") and two sample rows. You can fill it in with Excel or a spreadsheet program and then import it into the platform. The Excel file additionally contains a notes sheet describing each column. The CSV file uses a semicolon as delimiter and UTF-8, so it opens in German-language Excel without an import dialog.
The data blocks a battery passport comprises are described in Battery passport data. Who needs one is covered in Battery passport requirements. The template does not replace a legal review.
Column overview
The first four columns are master data; the others correspond to the model-level fields of the schema.

How to use the template
- Download the template. Choose Excel or CSV and download the file. No registration is needed for this.
- Fill it in. Replace the sample rows with your batteries. Each row is one product.
- Import. Upload the file in the platform. A dry-run first shows error rows with row number and reason before anything is saved.
- Correct and confirm. Fix the errors in the file and import again. Only then is the data saved.
- Update. For existing batteries, enter the product_id or the unique article number. Empty cells do not change existing values.
Missing information, such as material origin or CO₂ values, can be requested from your suppliers via a supplier link; suppliers do not need an account. After that you publish the passport page and download the QR code as PNG or SVG.
Next step
Try the platform free for 30 days and import your first file. Criteria for choosing a solution are in Battery passport software: what it must do. A separate data template exists for the general Digital Product Passport.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to register to download?
No. The data template can be downloaded as an Excel or CSV file without registration. You need an account to import it; the trial is free for 30 days.
- What happens to empty cells during import?
Empty cells do not change existing values. This lets you add individual columns in a second file without overwriting other information.
- How do I update existing batteries?
Enter the product_id from an export or use a unique article number in the column manufacturer_ref. The dry-run shows beforehand which rows would be created or updated.
- Why is the state of health missing from the template?
The template contains the fields at model level. State of health is a field at individual battery level and is not one of the importable columns.
